The Department of Parks and Recreation would like to inform the community that the Auld-Brokaw Trail, south of 15th Street to Morgen Park, will be closed due to construction from September 2, 2026 – October 15, 2026
Citizens should not enter the construction zone areas and please respect all fences and barriers as areas that should not be entered.
The detour for the trail to allow people to travel around the construction area would be the sidewalks on West 11th Street and Green Street.
By the end of the day on Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, all four lanes of U.S. Highway 81 (north of Yankton) are scheduled to be opened to traffic. The contractor is currently completing the pavement markings.
Motorists should stay alert for equipment and workers in the area to complete project clean-up and to install signage. Lane closures within the project area will be needed intermittently to complete remaining work.
This multi-year project extended the four-lane divided highway north of Yankton on Highway 81. Additional project information is available at https://dot.sd.gov/yankton81.
