Yankton Convention and Visitors Bureau

Our office is open to the public and we are greeting visitors during normal business hours, Monday thru Friday 8am – 5pm. We have special safety protocol implemented to keep our staff and visitors safe, upon arrival you will be greeted with friendly signage that outlines these measures.

Our address is 803 E 4th Street, we are located right off of Hwy 50 on the east side of town.

Not sure what to do while you’re here? We created these three step-by-step itineraries together for the OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS, FAMILY VACATIONERS, and WEEKEND RV’ERS that are sure to guide you through a fantastic stay in Yankton.

We have a couple of friendly reminders that we’d like you to keep in mind during your visit to Yankton.

  • Please be courteous to your fellow visitors by always adhering to safety guidelines.
  • Do not visit any of our attractions if you are ill, especially if you have had a fever within 72 hours of your visit.
  • For your safety and the safety of others, please keep a distance of at least 6 feet from other visitors. How far is 6 ft?

South Dakota State Parks

As our state faces the COVID-19 pandemic, Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) is working hard to make sure South Dakota’s outdoors are open to be used safely and responsibly.

General COVID-19 Reminders

  • Visit parks close to home. Follow any stay-at-home guidelines your city or state has enacted.
  • Everyone who recreates in South Dakota has a personal responsibility to practice good stewardship and respect for their surroundings as well as for their fellow friends, families and neighbors – now more than ever.
  • Park entrance fees apply, you can purchase your park sticker online here, by calling 800.710.2267, or at the Lewis & Clark Welcome Center.
  • Camping reservations may be made online at campsd.com or by phone at (800) 710-2267. Reservations are available up to 90 days in advance.
  • Be self-contained. Dump stations are open to fill your drinking water storage and empty your holding tank.
  • Please take responsibility and clean up after yourselves, park staff is limited at this time.
  • Firewood may be purchased at the park entrances using the self-pay system.
  • Campground maps are available at the entrance booth of each park, or online here: Lewis and Clark Recreation Area, Pierson Ranch Recreation Area, or Chief Whitecrane Recreation Area

  • Fishing Piers – No groups of more than 10  – Practice social distancing when utilizing fishing pier (Keep a distance of 6 feet from others)

Dump Stations

Freshwater to fill campers is available at the dump stations listed below. Drinking water stations are indicated on park maps (links above) with a “circled W”.

  • Pierson Ranch Station – 4 miles West of Yankton just off of State Hwy. 52
  • Lewis and Clark Recreation Area Station – Located across from the Lewis & Clark Recreation Area Welcome Center, inside of the park
  • Hwy 52 Station – 6 miles West of Yankton just off of State Hwy. 52

Missouri National Recreational River

As of June 29th 2020 the National Park Headquarters and Welcome Center have reopened.

Hours are: Mon- Fri , 800 am – 430 pm, with the following guidelines; 5 person max. in the building at one time and a 15 min visitation and face coverings are encouraged.

Park property including boat ramps, camping spots, and vault toilets at Bow Creek, Goat Island, and Green Island Recreation Areas and Mulberry Bend Overlook will remain open to provide healthy options for the public such as open trails and areas of recreation. 

US Army Corps of Engineers

Amenities that are currently open:
While these amenities remain open at this time the public is urged to practice social distancing in these areas.

Payment options for both campgrounds have changed. Now all campsite reservations must be paid online or over the phone. NO payments will be accepted in the campgrounds. Guests wishing to “walk-in” and rent a site will have to visit www.recreation.gov. or call (877) 444-6777 – (once the call center is reopened). Once in the campground, check site availability on www.receation.gov and book the site there. Reservations are still accepted and encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome, with payment at Recreation.gov.

Lewis & Clark Resort

The Lewis & Clark Resort is located in the Lewis & Clark Recreation Area along the Missouri River and features picturesque views of Lewis & Clark Lake with 24 (newly remodeled) motel rooms, 17 (2 & 3BR) cabins, and The Lodge, which sleeps up to 28 people.

All Cabins Include: Heating, Air Conditioning, Cable TV, WiFi, Kitchen, Bathroom, Linens, Towels, Coffee Maker, Stove, Microwave, Fridge, Stove, Skillets, Plates, Cups, Glasses, Silverware, Bowls, Utensils, Picnic Tables, Campfire Pit.

All Motel Rooms Include: Heating, Air Conditioning, Cable TV, WiFi, Linens, Towels Microwave, Dorm-size Refrigerator, and access to Campfire Pits and Stainless Steel Grills.

The property also features a private swimming pool, picnic shelters, horseshoe pits, basketball and volleyball courts, a playground, and is within walking distance to the Marina Bar and Grill & Lewis and Clark Marina.

DJ’S Resort and Rentals



DJ’s Resort & Rentals offers camper rentals, short-term and extended-stay lodging options, and recreational rentals.

DJ’s offers extended-stay cabins that sleep up to 6 and apartments that sleep between 2 – 4, which be rented out for as little as one night. (extended-stay guests are given reservation priority and longer stays receive lower rates)

DJ’s offers a variety of recreational rentals including canoes, paddleboards, kayaks & water bikes.

New this year! – DJ’s Resort & Rentals is ready to help you enjoy your camping trip without fear of running out of freshwater. This year many campers are choosing not to use comfort stations (public restrooms) to minimize the risk of spreading or contracting the virus.

DJ’s Resort & Rentals and will drain the graywater and refill the freshwater right at your local campsite. No more tearing down your campsite to refresh at the dump station. 

The fee for this service is $60 for up to 60 gallons. Use one of the methods below for service.

Yankton Missouri River KOA Journey

The Missouri River KOA, the recipient of the 2018 Founders Award and 2018 President’s Award, features camping with RV Sites and Tent Sites, as well as Cabins and Deluxe Cabins.

This property is located next door to the NFAA (National Field Archery Association) Easton Yankton Archery Complex – The world’s largest archery complex – which includes indoor and outdoor archery and air rifle ranges, four indoor tennis courts a museum, and the NFAA headquarters. At this facility, you can hone your skills at indoor, outdoor, 3-D and Olympic archery and air rifle (equipment available for rent).

Six miles west, at Lewis and Clark Lake, you’ll find opportunities for boating, sailing, fishing, jet skiing, and kayaking, 40+ miles of paved & unpaved trails, as well as swimming and sunbathing, on miles of beaches. Yankton

Yankton Area Hotels and Motels & Cabins

Area campgrounds are expected to be in very high demand this year – BUT DON’T FRET!

You can still experience all of the fantastic outdoor recreation that Yankton has to offer by heading out to the Lewis & Clark Lake or Missouri River for the day and then journey back to your room for a relaxing stay in one of our clean and safe hotels, motels or cabins and a hot meal prepared by one of our local restaurants.

Vacation Rentals

Just like the hotels, motels, and cabins – Vacation rentals offer you the same flexibility to experience Yankton’s Great Outdoors, with a relaxing environment to retreat to in the evening, with just a bit more space for you and your family or friends to spread out.

Nebraska State Parks

Camping
Beginning June 4, all previous temporary camping restrictions on recreational vehicle and tent camping will be lifted. All designated beaches and swimming areas will also be open.All reservation-only campsites and first-come campsites will be available to all camping units, including RV’s camping trailers, and tents.

Camp guests will be able to make reservations online for previously reservable sites or enjoy first-come-first-serve camping across the state.

Nebraska Game and Parks would like to remind park guests to continue practicing social distancing to ensure compliance with the state’s Directed Health Measures (DHM’s) during the COVID-19 health situation.

Cabins
Cabins within the park have reopened.

Park Office
The Park Office is open and operating out of the walk-up windows.

Shower Houses
Shower houses and modern restrooms are open. Guests should bring soap or disinfecting wipes as the availability of sanitation products is limited nationally.

Playgrounds
Outdoor playgrounds will open, but guests should bring their own hand sanitizer and sanitize equipment prior to and after use.

Beaches
Designated beach and swimming areas reopened on June 4.

Fishing
Guests are able to fish from the shore as long as it is not within a buoyed or closed area of the shoreline. Social distancing and group size limits will still prevail.

Marina Store
Marina Store has reopened.

Park Stickers and Fishing Permits are required and can be purchased online or at a self-service station.

City of Yankton Parks

The City of Yankton also has a set of reminders, should you choose to utilize any of the city parks.

  • Wipe down any playground equipment before you use it.
  • Keep at least 6ft between you and others while playing, walking, running, biking, chalking, or just hanging out in the parks.
  • Utilize the green space in the parks and bring your own outdoor toys if you’d like.
  • Have fun and enjoy time with your family, but please do your part in keeping yourself, your family, and our community safe.

Groceries, Gas, & Takeout/Delivery

Groceries Online and Pick Up

Below are several retailers who are offering safe options for visitors to secure supplies. Curbside pickup or delivery is highly encouraged. This allows us to maintain safe social distancing and prevent the spread of the virus from areas outside of Yankton.

Fueling up at a full-service gas station is encouraged to maintain safe social distancing and prevent the spread of the virus from areas outside of Yankton.

Takeout and Delivery

While most restaurants and bars are now open in the Yankton area, we encourage visitors to continue to utilize drive-thru, curbside pickup, and delivery options to minimize the spread of the virus in our community. The Yankton Area Chamber of Commerce and Visit Yankton have created this handy list of available options – Yankton Grub Love. You can check out each restaurant’s menu by following the hyperlinks provided.

We also encourage visitors to support our local restaurants when possible during this difficult time.

Fishing

Southeastern South Dakota has more than 175 fishing lakes as large as 29,000 acres. This region is equipped to host fishermen year-round with open seasons on most species of fish: bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, perch, sauger and walleye. Lewis & Clark Lake draws anglers from across the country with its alluring combination of largemouth and smallmouth bass, and Westside Park in Yankton has a great fishing pond for kids.

Fishing Licenses

Fishing licenses are obtainable online here SD Fishing License or NE Fishing License. But don’t worry, if you forgot to purchase yours before you left the house, you can still pick one up at two local suppliers via their drive-through window.

Fishing is a fantastic activity that allows you to safely keep your distance from others, and Yankton has a variety of fisheries to choose from, including Lewis and Clark Lake, Lake Yankton, the Missouri River, and the James River. Yankton has several guides that are ready to help your family safely and effortlessly reel in that big catch and make lasting positive memories during this difficult time.
