Get your RV set up at one of our campgrounds* along the Missouri River. The weekend camping crowds will be gone which gives you a better chance to get that sweet spot right on the water! Come for an entire week and really experience what Yankton has to offer! This is how we recommend spending your extended time here. Monday: Try our variety of local cuisines, stroll around the Meridian District to see unique shops and historical architecture, and catch some live music if the timing is right. Visit local museums and art galleries, catch walleye, go bird-watching, and get some rounds of golf in. Monday – Friday: Take an evening stroll on the paved walking path that follows the curves of Lewis and Clark Lake. Take in the sunset as it reflects off of the Missouri River and turns the chalkstone bluffs into a mesmerizing golden color. Friday Evening: Head into town early to catch the sunrise over the Missouri River from the vantage point of the historic Meridian Pedestrian Bridge. While you’re there, check out the farmer’s market (through October) just a couple of blocks away. Saturday Morning: Take our self-guided historic walking tour, consisting of historical landmarks and turn-of-the-century architecture. Saturday Afternoon: Enjoy a relaxing dinner next to the water at one of our lake area restaurants. Saturday Evening: Schedule an early morning fishing trip on the Missouri River with one of our local guides to see the river and natural habitat up close and personal. Sunday Morning: *Book your campsite 90 days prior to your arrival so you can choose the kind of site that fits you best!

Friday Evening: Roll into town and get your camping supplies (firewood, campfire food, cold beverages). Pitch your tent at one of our campgrounds* along Lewis and Clark Lake and relax. You’re here…soak it up. Saturday Morning: Hit the hiking trails early to catch the sun rise over the mighty Missouri River from the top of the chalkstone bluffs. Saturday Afternoon: Rent kayaks from a local outfitter and get on the water! Lake Yankton is a safe option for beginners, Lewis and Clark Lake or the Missouri River is perfect for mid-level abilities, and the Missouri River is a fun challenge for skilled kayakers. Saturday Evening: Enjoy dinner on a patio of one of our local restaurants. Stop by our iconic outdoor bar where you’re encouraged to smash your glass bottle after you’re finished. Try your hand at throwing axes or virtual golf. Sunday Morning: Stretch your legs with a round of disc golf at Gavins Point Recreation Area. Sunday Afternoon: Cover miles of scenic ground with an afternoon bike ride. Our connected trails will take you along both Lewis & Clark Lake and Lake Yankton, along Gavins Point Dam, into and through the city of Yankton, over the Meridian Bridge to Nebraska and back, through Riverside Park, and so much more. *Book your campsite 90 days prior to your arrival so you can choose the kind of site that fits you best!
When you’re around 30 minutes out, call a Yankton eatery and order a take-and-bake meal or dinner-to-go. Check into your vacation rental home or lake area resort room. Yankton is a great place to bring your family for an easy weekend getaway! Here’s an itinerary idea for your planning purposes. Friday Evening: Grab some fresh donuts and coffee. Head to the Mead Cultural Education Center to learn about Lewis and Clark’s expedition and experience the Children’s Transportation Museum. Saturday Morning: Go swimming at one of our many beaches along Lewis and Clark Lake. Really earn bonus points with your kids by renting a lily pad or paddleboards. Saturday Afternoon: Experience South Dakota’s first pizza house (Charlie’s Pizza House). We recommend the award-winning Festus Pizza. Challenge your family members to a round of mini-golf, go-karting, bowling, or laser tag. Saturday Evening: Get up close and personal with the Missouri River by taking a tour with one of our local guides. You might even see eagles or jumping carp! Sunday Morning: Check out our newest attraction, The Boat House, where you can try your hand at axe throwing, shuffleboard, ski ball, or give their golf simulator a whirl.
