Mead Hall of Trees

Spark your holiday spirit at Mead Hall of Trees!

Beginning on November 28th running through January 31st, the entire Mead building will be decked out with Christmas decor and feature Christmas trees decorated by local businesses, organizations, and individuals.

We hope your family will add this special visit to the Mead Building to your list of annual holiday traditions.

Also, don’t forget to explore the Paul Goetz Toy Collection! Toys from 1889- 1960 will be on display throughout the month.

MCEC is open from 10 am to 4 pm Monday – Saturday.

15th Annual Crimson Door

The Annual Crimson Door Holiday Shopping Boutique is Yankton’s longest-running Pop-Up!

Each December the G.A.R. Hall Art Gallery is transformed into a festive boutique bursting with exceptional fine art and craftwork for unique holiday shopping. With over 40 artists offering creative, one-of-a-kind work, holiday shoppers find unique, handmade items for everyone on their list. 

The decision was made to move this year’s Crimson Door to online shopping with curbside pick-up only. 

In honor of our 15th year, YAA has an exclusive Yankton puzzle available for sale while supplies last. Shoppers can also purchase raffle tickets for one of 4 unique themed baskets. Watch our social media for more information and for artist highlights!

Open daily for curbside pickup December 5-23, 2020.
Pick up times are Monday-Friday 12-6pm, Saturday 1-4pm.

Vintage Christmas at the Mead

Be sure to stop by the Mead this December and experience Vintage Christmas!

Best of all, every child will receive free admission to the museum from December 1 to December 31 when accompanied by an adult.

We will have treat bags with a cookie, a hot cocoa packet, and a craft to assemble at home. A scavenger hunt and bingo game can be played inside the Mead plus the entire building will be decked with Christmas decor including the Hall of Trees!  

Father Christmas will visit on Saturday, December 12 & 19.

Also, don’t forget to see the Paul Goetz Toy Collection! Toys from 1889- 1960 will be on display throughout the month.

MCEC is open from 10 am to 4 pm Monday – Saturday.

Face masks are strongly recommended but not required.

YASB Christmas Concert

The Yankton Area Summer Band will reconvene for an annual Christmas Concert held at Yankton Summit Theater.

The all-volunteer band will perform some Christmas favorites at no cost to the public. A cookie and cider reception will follow in the high school commons provided by the Services Central Federal Credit Union.

Crimson Door Holiday Shopping Boutique

The Crimson Door Holiday Boutique is Yankton’s first Pop Up Shop. Filled with one-of-a-kind, hand-made items by local and regional artists, the Crimson Door is a must stop shop to find unique gifts for everyone on your list.


Annual Mount Marty Vespers Concert

Make plans to experience the annual Advent prayer service and Vespers Concert presented by the Mount Marty Music Department. 

The Vespers Concert is free and open to the public. No tickets are necessary for admission. For more information, please visit or call 605.668.1539.

In between the two performances, the Mount Marty Gregorian Club will be providing complimentary treats in the Monastery Chapter Room. All attendees are invited to attend!

In case of inclement weather, the makeup date is December 9 at 7:00 P.M.

Cowboy Christmas at the WJ Ranch

Experience Christmas in the country at the Cowboy Christmas event happening just 15 minutes south of Yankton.

People of all ages will enjoy seeing arts and crafts vendors, buggy and pony rides, hayrack rides, a chat with Santa Claus, a petting zoo, refreshments, family activities, and more, all at no fee to you.

Friday, November 29 – Store Hours 4 – 8 p.m. (no activities)
Saturday November 30 – 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Sunday December 1 – 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Animal Rides/Activities in afternoons only on Saturday and Sunday
Santa Claus will be at the ranch on Saturday from 1 – 3 p.m.

Yankton Area Summer Band Christmas Concert

The Yankton Area Summer Band will be holding their annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 16 at 4:00pm at the Yankton Summit Center located at 1801 Summit Street.

All concerts are FREE to the public and brought to you by Yankton Area Arts and the Yankton Parks & Recreation Department.

Vintage Christmas

As part of the Grand Re-Opening celebration we will be hosting a Vintage Christmas. This family-fun event is open to everyone and will be hours of entertainment. Father Christmas will be here to meet the kids, Mrs. Claus will be decorating cookies with the kids and ready holiday stories. We will also ornament making – kids can take one home and also make one that will be displayed in the childrens museum.

If you have gifts that need wrapping, our elves would be more than happy to help you for a small charge.
Come and enjoy our Halls of Trees. Local businesses are invited to decorate a Christmas Tree. The trees will be on display through Christmas.
Everyone who brings in a canned good or non-perishable item will receive a discount on their admission. Items collected will be donated to local food pantries.

What better way to spend a Saturday then with us, celebrating 10 years of hard work, at the Mead Cultural Education Center.

The Mead Cultural Education Center is located at 82 Mickelson Drive – just north of Walmart on the old state hospital campus.
