April 19 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 7:00 pm on Monday, repeating until April 26, 2021
This course is an introduction to bird watching from how to use binoculars and a bird field guide to how to identify birds by shape, plumage, behavior, habitat preference, and voice. We will have three classroom sessions and one field session to introduce people to the constant variety and challenge of birding, as well as, the camaraderie of bird watching with a group of people.
Roger Dietrich, Instructor
Roger was born and raised in South Dakota. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from South Dakota State University in 1970 and earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1973. He returned to South Dakota in 1974 and has worked here in various positions until retiring from a career as a Clinic Administrator in December, 2010.
Roger has been able to spend more time on birding since he retired. Getting outside and enjoying the birds and everything else in nature has become his main pastime. Hiking, kayaking, or biking at the many birding spots, in the area and around the country, means new birds and new sights to be enjoyed. He combines his hobby of photography with birding so all the bird images used in his class are ones he has taken.
He is a member of the South Dakota Ornithological Union and the American Birding Association.
