.6 miles each level, 12′ concrete, no slope on lower level, steep slope on upper level entry ramps. This trail is the historic double-deck Meridian Bridge, which had its dedication ceremony on October 11, 1924.
The Meridian Bridge is Yankton’s signature landmark. The bridge was completed in 1924, and was the first to span the Missouri River at that time. Today, the bridge is distinguished as the only vertical lift span in Nebraska and South Dakota and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. After the construction of the new Discovery Bridge, the Meridian Bridge was closed to vehicular traffic, underwent rehab, and reopened for pedestrian/biker use in 2011. The north end hosts a plaza containing benches and and spray jets for those hot summer days!
The bridge spans the Missouri National Recreational River, which is a National Park.
